Bottle Brush Wreaths

My office is an old fitting room-weird angles and very tall ceiling-and since I don't decorate at home-I have a few wreaths up(along with some other things I'll show later). The medium size gold colored one I just picked up at the thrift store for $.90-I was so excited since I like the old ones best.

Merry Christmas Candy Box

I've had this little box for a few years-I originally got it to decorate with at our local historical home-the Dr. Hirmam Rutherford house. Because I wasn't decorating at home-I was on the hunt for things that I could use there. It's been a few years since we had a Christmas open house-so it may be one of my very few things I put out this year!

Primitive Storage Cabinet

Can't tell you why I bought this or where I'm going to put it-I've run out of places to put things-I think I thought it might be a great storage piece for my husband's office across the street-ya right-I've taken up his office and work-out room with my extra stuff-do you ever think this kind of thing can help a problem of buying more stuff-not sure-but it helps to have a place to put it. Or there's the option of selling it next year at Ella Mae's Barn -I'll have to think of that one over the winter and get it home first to find a place to put it!

It does have a lot of drawers though........

Primitive Doll Bed

I bought this doll bed this week for $12.00-not sure if I'll keep it or sell it next spring-I'm not really into primitive-but I couldn't pass it up-would make a great little doll bed-couldn't resist putting the red stocking on the bedpost with a treat-of course all three dogs came running when they heard me in the treat jar-couldn't take the pic until they'd got one!

A Reason to Be Thankful

Our farm used to raise turkeys!
My husband says to me last nite-you know, we have a lot to be thankful for-we have a nice warm house, plenty of food, jobs, and money in the bank to pay our bills. I tell him back-I thank God each nite before I go to bed for all these things and more(I really do try to thank him daily!). But the truth of it is that I can say all those things, but I really don't know how lucky I am-I try to-but I've never gone hungry(not even for a day), always worked hard to stay ahead to pay bills, never lost a loved one in a war, always had a place to call home, still have both my parents, both my husband and I are in good health and our families along with both of us have a relationship with Jesus Christ. I can't imagine living in some other country where some, if not all of these things I would not have. I wonder a lot why God put me here-in this place and this time but I know he has a master plan and I trust him completely!
I do feel blessed in so many ways-I feel honored to have met each and every one of you thru blogging and I hope that you have a wonderful Thanksgiving Day!

The Last Pumpkin Picture

Well folks-tomorrow we throw out the pumpkins and start what little(and I mean little)Christmas decorating. I'm not sad to see them go-I've had them since the first of September and I'm ready for a change. I bought this planter last spring at a garage sale for $15 and instantly knew I had to have it. I love the scrolls and it's heavy -so it won't blow away in my yard! Hope you all have a Happy Thanksgiving!

White Child's Rocking Chair

One of the other items I got at that Friday nite garage sale(I did get some wonderful items!) for $12.00. I love decorating with white items -haven't had much time to really decorate it though(with all the crazy holiday work stuff)-so I just plopped this little pumpkin down and that's it for now!

Pumpkins in the Urns

This is one of my favorite things to do with pumpkins-the first thing I do when I buy them-throw out the spring/summer flowers(wish I could save them like Marydon does!) and replace them with pumpkins-doesn't feel so empty that way!

My Grandma- Ella Mae

Would you please pray for my Grandma Ella Mae and our family? For the past couple of years she's been losing her eyesight to Macular Degeneration and just this past Friday fell hitting her head and bruising her hip. She's was in the hospital for the weekend and has just been put into a nursing home so that they can give her therapy. This is a very difficult time for my mother, as it is for anyone in this circumstance, but we hope that she will regain her strength and be able to come home. There are other underlying issues that I cannot speak of so I'm asking for prayers for that also. Thank you as we put her in God's hands!

Little Antique Doll

I bought the smallest doll a couple of weeks ago at an antique mall for only $5.00. I don't know much about dolls-but I can never resist one at that price! I showed her to my doll collector friend and she says she's an old one-I just love to have them sitting around my parlor!

A Surprise Gift in the Mail

Tete called me yesterday and told me that Cheryl from ZanyMayd had sent her a package and there was a suprise for me too! In today's crazy world it's easy to think of wanting to do something -it's another to do it-meaning it was super cool that she took the time to write and send a little surprise for Tete and included me! I simply love it all! Thanks Cheryl for your friendship and the gift!

Angel Tree Toppers

I've had these dolls/angels for several years now- one doesn't have her wings and is dressed in off-white and the other is dressed in silver with silver wings. I love to decorate with old, vintage things-makes me wonder how many Christmas's they've seen!

Porch Rockin

I bought this pillow from a friend's antique shop several years ago. The shop had many primitives and usually the only time I decorate with these colors is the fall. She made this pillow out of old sweaters and then would stuff the inside with old clothes she would buy in bags from a thrift store that was stained or ripped that they couldn't sell. It makes the pillow kinda lumpy like old ones and is a great way to recycle. She was great at picking out sweaters that had great textures!

Potato Mittens?

I live about 30 minutes from where I work and sometimes I go to my parent's house for lunch or dinner when I'm working. Just last week my mom made chicken and a baked potato-and when she cut it open-she says -that looks like a pair of mittens-do you want me to take a picture? I said sure(knowing my bf-Tete-and other sometimes post food-I usually don't because I eat a lot of peanut butter on toast or cereal-I don't cook at all!). So here's one of those freak things of nature-maybe it means the weather yet to come!!!

Hand Collection

I think this may be the very first collection I ever started. When I met my husband he had this antique cabinet in the parlor that I claimed right away for displaying them all. The cabinet has doors that need curved glass(maybe someday we'll get that done!). We have it in the dining room now. I think I have close to 100 hands. I haven't bought any for several years-moving on to many new collections.
The big one with the pink base was the first bought at Mrs. Davis's junk shop when I was in gradeschool. I have one shelf for praying hands only.

The lady that owned the shop was a wonderful old lady named Mrs. Davis and I frequented her shop until just a few years ago when she died. She had the kind of shop with just piles and piles and boxes of things waiting to be discovered. She was a very special lady to me because we could visit about so many things. Her prices were wonderful and she kept buying and buying even when she had stuff that would never be discovered. She was very generous to others, but a strong lady in spirit and body. She owned several rental properties and did a lot of the work herself. There isn't many places around like her shop and certainly not many women like her-I still miss her!

I went garage saling a couple of weeks ago and picked up this step-stool.

Most people would say-why'd you buy that? I guess I like the color, I thought it would be a good display piece, good to put potted plants on in the spring, cute for the kids to sit on to take pictures, fun to use as a plain ole stool-

Have I convinced you yet?

Sweet Fur Muffs

My best friend, Tete(Beyond the Garden Gate) and I have already exchanged our Christmas gifts and this is what she got me this year-another little girl muff that is shaped like a doll -isn't she sweet. I've never seen one with arms-and I love the blonde hair-just like me! Last year she gave this one-it has a surprise to it-one side is a doll head .......
and the other has a bear head!

I think I bought this one first and that is how she got the idea- so now I have 3 -and it's
a little collection!

Very Little Christmas Stocking

I picked this up today at our local thrift store-it looks old-never seen one like it? Anyone know anything about it? The background is a lid I also got-couldn't find the bottom-but loved the vintage print! I don't do Christmas decorating-so what am I thinking?

Shabby Soft Green Antique Frame

You ever saw something you really wanted and it just wasn't for sale? I think we all have. I know that happens to me all the time. This frame was sitting at our local Salvation army when I first spied it. I quickly ran over to the sales girl and asked how much? She said-not for sale. I was really disappointed. There was a little sticker that did say that after I calmed down. It probably wouldn't have been there if it would have been for sale. Every time I went in there-I would always look at it(they were using it for display!). I finally asked the girl again-if you ever sell it-can I have a chance? She told me to ask the main lady. Next time I did. No it's not for sale-she asked why I liked it. I told her that I loved the color and it was just my style and that I would give her $20 if she changed her mind. A few weeks later I was in there-and it was gone-my heart sank. They sold it to someone else. As I went to check out-I got my courage up to ask the young man about it. He told me that it was in the back room on hold for some lady with blonde hair! I said -I think that's me! So I got to bring it home-It's always nice when it works out that way-usually it doesn't. I've got plans for this little lady-I'll show you at a later date! I'm linking up with Linda at http://ljm-alacarte.blogspot.com/ for Garage Saling Friday.

My Leaf Shutters

I can't remember where I picked these up at-but it's one of the few things I bring out after Halloween and before Thanksgiving. I prop them up on either side of the garage doors for just a hint of color and a fall look-I'm sure there is more out there -but I've never seen another set!

Mini Bust Forms

I got these bust forms from work a few weeks ago-can you believe they were going to throw them in the trash? I've had my eye on them for the last few years and I lucked out by being there that day. They are really nice and heavy and made almost like the old-fashioned ones were. They were used in our jewerly department to hang necklaces on-and I got a couple a few years ago that are all black!

More Iron Beds!!!!!!

Remember the post about the Mad Gasser house( August 19th) where I got my free farm table? Well, the gentleman who gave it to me also had some old iron beds that he saved from the house and they were in the back of his truck. I asked him about them a couple of time over the last 2 months and he told me he was checking with his relatives to see if anyone of them wanted them. I, of course, told him that I would be happy to pay for them but after two months(even though they were still in the back of his truck) I was just about ready to give up(not that I needed them!-just really, really liked them!). He finally gave me a call and I went by and bought them both for $40. I was pretty excited because they also had the rails(most beds don't). They're in a little rough shape-but I think that makes me like them more. The top one has a great green patina and both have wonderful details! Not sure what I'm going to do with them-but I'll think of something!
