Old Coffee Grinder

I'll be posting things for the next few days that we received from Auntie Margaret's apartment. I've always wanted a coffee grinder and this one goes perfectly with the rest of the oak pieces in our kitchen.

A Tribute to Auntie Margaret

Yesterday was a very long, but special day. I was up at 4:00 am and my husband and I headed out for Chicago at 5:45 for a memorial service for his Great Auntie Margaret. She was an amazing 96 years young woman who inspired and delighted those around her. She always had a great story and quick wit, along with a smile on her face. She was a strong lady too having lived thru the death of her two children and her husband. Her pride and joy was her Grand-daughter, Lindsey. We were able to spend a wonderful time yesterday visiting with friends and family about her life and just catching up with relatives we don't see very often. I wanted to include program from her service because of her strong faith. The minister did a wonderful job.

Eric's sister, Nancy and Meg (Eric's cousin), grand-nieces of Margaret Cant, and Lindsey, her grand-daughter, all got up and spoke about Auntie Margaret. Their tributes were very heartfelt.

I always loved seeing Auntie Margaret because she was so kind and funny. She seemed to always have something interesting to share that she had experienced.

We were blessed after the service and dinner to get to go back to her apartment and choose several items to bring home to remember her by. We were very fortunate to get two pieces of history from our farm that I will be showing at a later date.

We arrived back home at 8:30 last nite tired but knowing that we had said goodbye to an Amazing Lady-Margaret Cant.

My Gram's Baby Dress

I was up at 2:00 am (couldn't sleep) cleaning my bathroom and kitchen when I saw this picture in my kitchen and thought it would be perfect for Rednesday. It's my Gram's (Ella Mae's) red faded baby dress. She's in the picture with her sister, Ann. I had it put under glass several years ago.

A Tale of Timmy

Did you ever have an pet scare? Where one of them is missing?

Yesterday we woke up to that. We have two cats(one is pretty wild (Little Tommy, the other one is a big baby(Timmy) that live on our enclosed, carpeted, furnished, back porch. These cats like to go outside(I'm against it-but they love it!) They always come in at nite and we shut the door.

The nite before, Timmy, had found a mouse and my husband wouldn't let him in with it-so the cats were outside all nite(I wouldn't have done that!)

So the next morning Timmy was no where to be found. My husband searched outside and in the garage and we called his name. He didn't come when we fed the other cat( we feed them 3 times a day-wonder why they're fat?). So I got that sick feeling-maybe a coyote got him. I love all animals-BUT not coyotes.
After a while-my husband says-do you hear a meowing. Our Timmy had gotten himself stuck in our smokehouse! What relief!
I love a good ending to a story-Don't you!

My New Rose Rainboots

I've been looking for another pair of rainboots(my other ones are pink camo and I keep them in my camper), but I needed something to replace the several pairs of furry boots I keep by the back door to take the dogs out in the morning(I use flipflops in the summer). So when I spied these-I just had to have them!

Corner of the Upstairs Bedroom

This is a corner of my upstairs bedroom(that no one ever gets to see because I keep all my stuff in there-clothes, shoes, etc-my husband and I sleep in our downstairs bedroom). But I'm trying to get motivated to pack away the winter clothes and get ready for spring so I thought I'd share a tiny area of this room(it has four dressers, a washstand, queen size bed and a wardrobe!). I love this wall paper-but it was a hard room to paper because the walls don't stop-they just round up-originally I had thought to paper the ceiling -but I did that in the hallway and never again!

All of the items were found junkin or antiquing-I just love this paper mache bust form-and since she didn't have a head -I just stuck some posies in there!

Calling Card Stand?

When I first moved into our old 1850's home-I began collecting calling cards. I wanted a special place to put them where they would stand out in our entryway-like in the old days. I had this cherub stand (my entry is filled with antique cherub prints!) and presto-the tray fit right on top!

Praying Hands Picture

This praying hands print hangs on the wall next to my husband's side of the bed. I have several praying prints in our bedroom. I try to end my day thanking the Lord for all he has given me and for the mercies he gives. As the days pass by so quickly-it's important to remember who's always there -GOD!!!! Vintage Stuffed Rabbit

This time of the year I'm always looking for vintage Easter items(I prefer to decorate only with old things!). Today was a lucky day because I took an extra few minutes to stop in a local antique store and spied this little girl-for only $12.00. She's a fun little one and will look good just sitting on one of our kitchen chairs!

White Rabbit Fur Baby Slippers

My Dear BF Tete gave me these soooooo sweet slippers for Easter(we always exchange early so we can decorate with our goodies!). They are in mint condition and so soft. I've never seen anything like them(wish I love!) and will be so fun to decorate with. I'm looking for that special place(where the dogs won't get them and tear them up) to put them so I can see them everyday and enjoy them! I think they may look good next to some of my other child toys or clothes-it will be fun to figure it out! Thanks Tete for being such an amazing friend and for finding me such wonderful treasures!

Are You Stuck In the Mud?

These pics were also taken when we went to the Amana colonies outside the rocker museum. I thought they were kinda funny! How'd they get that in there?
This was attached to the windmill-made the man look like he was sawing when it was windy!
