Antique Red Roses

And my husband said this rose wouldn't live! My sister and her husband tore down a house next door to them(don't worry-it was nothing worth saving) except for this rose bush. I've always seen these in people's yards-but where do you buy them. The old ones are the hardest to come by. This is the first year it's bloomed! I didn't think it was going to amount to anything(nor did my husband) but I think it will start to take off in the next few years.

Pots, Pots and More Pots

I decided to post the pots on my backporch after posting the ones on my front porch on the Shabby Pink blog. They really need to be cleaned and thinned out some. I love the little scalloped table that they sit on!

Getting the Barn Ready

Well I've spent part of the last two days cleaning up the barn so I can get ready to open. There is still so much to do. I'm getting a late start this year due to the rainy days. I hope to be open sometime in June. I'll keep you posted!

Pollywogs Chocolates

I'm having some difficulty with my camera-I can't seem to get it in focus. I've been trying everything to fix it. My mom has the same camera-so I'm going to have her look at it. I picked up this chocolate tin last Saturday for $1.00. It was filled with cool buttons too.

Purple Lilac Bushes

When I met my husband and moved into our home in 1994-there were almost no bushes. I worked with a landscape designer to find old fashioned plants to place around our home. These are three dwarf korean lilacs that we chose. I only wish we wouldn't have planted around the foundation. From pictures-they didn't do that in the old days!

Another thing I collect is Porch Pictures. Pictures with people posing on their porches or in their yards. I love to study the backgrounds-the landscaping and plants, the architectural details of the house, the furniture they sit on(usually their prized possessions, and of course the hairstyles and clothing. I got this wonderful piece at a garage sale today for only $.50-can you believe that!!!!

The Oakland Messenger January 6, 1949

Top Half of Article

Celebrate their 50th Wedding Anniversary

On December 28, 1898 at high noon at the James Zimmerman homestead(OUr FARM!!!) near Ashmore, Illinois, Miss Anna Clare Zimmerman, daughter of William and Olive Zimmerman and Mr. Clarence Wesley Snyder, son of William and Margared Snyder, were united in marriage. Rev. George Fisher then pastor of the Ashmore Presbyterian church officiated. About 50 guest were seved a sumptuous turkey dinner(OUR FARM used to raise turkeys) on this occasion. As was the custom 50 years ago, the wedding dinner was followed by an infare held at the home of the groom's parents on the day following. About 30 guests were so entertained at the home of Mr. and Mrs. William Snyder and another high noon turkey dinner was enjoyed by all.

Bottom Half of article mentions Max Coon(my husband's father), a grandson, had charge of a guest book to record the names of those attending in order that his grandparents might enjoy the memory of this day in days to come. The article told of the many guests that attended and where they were from.

I plan to get a large frame to put this newspaper in. My sister in law, Nancy, found this article in Auntie Jo's documents and thought we would like to have it-YES-we love anything with the history about the farm!

Antique Jingle Cups Game

I picked up this old game for only $3.00 a couple of weeks ago. It's made of tin with yellow, blue, red and green cups. The directions say-Jingle Cups may be played with any number of discs and players. The thrill of the game is to score by dropping the discs into the cups. If disc drops into cup of same color, score on base of game next to that cup is doubled. Each player continues until all discs have been used. The manufacturer is Wolverine Supply Co of Pittsburg, PA.

Miss Kitty's Visit to the Vet

Miss Kitty went to the vet for probably the first time in 15 years. I'm not a bad pet owner. Dogs go every year-but Miss Kitty is a real B_ _ _ _ _ when she wants to be. In fact, the vet couldn't even draw her blood because she thru such a fit. They had to wrap her in a blanket to even look at her-she looked like a cat burrito! I was so afraid that she wouldn't be coming home due to her age. She was so curious looking around!

The news wasn't as bad as I had feared. I still have some more time with her. She got medication for her joint pain and I hope that will help relieve a little discomfort walking. She's my first pet ever and I just love her soooo much!

Old Chevrolet Tailgate

Can you tell what this is? I could right away-it's a tailgate from an old Chevrolet pickup truck. I know it's a little rusty, but I love this color. For $10 I just had to have it. I'm going to put it in the loft of my sale barn until I figure out what to do with it! I felt like the American Pickers when I found it last week at a garage sale! Happy Mother's Day Mom

What can you say to your Mom to tell her thank you for being such a great Mom? Write about her and post her picture all over blogland!!!

I can hear you right now reading this Mom-I hate this picture and tearing yourself apart. I had to go back 2 years to find a picture of you. You always said as we were growing up that you were behind the camera, not in front of it-and I've decided-I'm going to take more pictures of you! By the way-someone at work last nite told me how beautiful you are!!!!! (BYW- I have people tell me that all the time about you!).

Anyway-I love you! I know we tell each other that a lot and I know I like to tease you about so many things-but I think you're great! I love spending the nite at your house so we can catch up(you can show me your quilt pieces for the hundreth time-just kidding)-no really-I enjoy our talks. The quiet time at the day's end when I can just relax and get some mother/daughter time without the distractions of the day. And- I love the extra little things you do to make my stay-over special(turning my bed down and chocolates on my pillow(which I didn't see and slept on all nite long one time!).

But most of all-I love to see how you continue to grow in life and in God and how you share that with your friends and family! Your and inspiration to those around you-and certainly to me! I love how you're taking enjoying life to it's fullest everyday. I hope you have a Wonderful Day!!!

Happy Mother's Day!!!!

Victorian Photo Album Collection

I think this is all of them. I bought the first two today for $5.00 each. I don't know why I love these, except for the beautiful covers, and of course, they're old and victorian. Some people are taking them apart-but I could never do that. So much history-if they could only tell the stories of the people pictures they held inside................. Love the inside of this one with the gold flowers

Green with metal Album

Pretty swirl design inside Orange with flowers This one has an interesting inside Sweet lady on the front of this one. Plain Inside full of lots of wedding photos This is one of my favorites-love this beauty with the puffy sleeves-it almost looks like fairy wings. Because of that- I put vintage fairy pics on every page(I'll show the entire book at another time!)

Burgundy with ornate metal edging-pretty worn Plain Inside-full of photos

I'll be putting the best one on tomorrow on my Shabby Pink World Blog.
