Silver Wedding Cup

This is a really neat reproduction of a wedding cup(I think-anyone out there know?). I believe the story goes something like there was a young silversmith who was poor who wanted to marry his love so her father told him that he could if he could make a cup they both could drink out of at the same time. The father thought it was impossible. But he made this cup! The ladies hands hold a cup that swings so she can drink out of it while her husband to be drinks out of the skirt!

  1. Hello Rebecca,
oh it is amazing to see this weeding cup. I own one in pewter and there are lots made in former times by Hanau silver manufacturers. We have in Germany also a wedding cup museum: http://hochzeitsbecher.de/ueberuns.html
Isn't that old story nice. Thanks for sharing.
    Greetings, Johanna

  5. Rebecca, I one of these Jungfrauenbecher or maiden cups. It was a gift from my mother-in-law at our rehearsal dinner. You can read the story about our cup in my archives, Saturday, May 8, 2010. Would love to know the story of your cup. Thanks for sharing. It's fun to see another one of these cups. ~ Sarah

  10. Wow - thanks for posting the wedding cup. My husband and I toasted each other on our wedding. I believe I'll go get mine out of my "hope chest" to display. Thank you for sending me down memory lane!
